Neuer Holds Donnarumma Responsible For Musiala's Injury During Club World Cup Match

Manuel Neuer has attributed Jamal Musiala's severe injury to Gianluigi Donnarumma's risky challenge during Bayern Munich's loss to Paris Saint-Germain. The match, which ended 2-0 in PSG's favour with goals from Desire Doue and Ousmane Dembele, was marred by Musiala's injury just before half-time. This incident occurred when Donnarumma attempted to secure a loose ball near the byline, resulting in a collision with Musiala.

Reports indicate that Musiala suffered a fractured fibula and will be out for at least four months. Bayern manager Vincent Kompany could not provide an immediate update on the injury's severity after the match. Meanwhile, Neuer expressed his belief that Donnarumma should take responsibility for the incident. "It's a situation where you don't have to go in like that," Neuer stated, as reported by Sky Sports Germany.

Neuer Critiques Donnarumma Over Musiala Injury

Donnarumma appeared visibly upset as players left the field at half-time. Neuer approached him, suggesting he should check on Musiala. "Fairness is always important," Neuer remarked, adding that he would have reacted differently. Eventually, Donnarumma did extend his well wishes to Musiala. After the game, he shared an Instagram post expressing his concern and prayers for Musiala.

Real Madrid's Thibaut Courtois defended Donnarumma, arguing that such collisions are part of football and can happen unintentionally. "Blaming Donnarumma seems excessive to me," Courtois commented after Real Madrid's victory over Borussia Dortmund in another quarter-final match. He emphasised that goalkeepers often face similar situations and injuries can occur despite their best intentions.

Courtois acknowledged that Neuer might feel more affected due to his teammate being injured but insisted that Donnarumma is not at fault. Both goalkeepers are set to compete against each other as Real Madrid faces PSG in the Club World Cup semi-final at MetLife Stadium on Wednesday.

The incident has sparked discussions about player safety and sportsmanship in football. While opinions vary on who bears responsibility for such injuries, it highlights the inherent risks involved in high-stakes matches where players strive for victory.
