Newcastle Faces Continued Struggles In Premier League After Defeat To Brentford

Eddie Howe expressed disappointment after Newcastle's 3-1 defeat at Brentford, marking their third consecutive away loss. The team must improve to escape the relegation zone.

Eddie Howe expressed disappointment as Newcastle's struggles continued with a 3-1 loss at Brentford. Despite taking an early lead through Harvey Barnes, Newcastle faltered after halftime. Michael Kayode's long throw led to Kevin Schade's equaliser, and a penalty conceded by Dan Burn allowed Igor Thiago to score twice, leaving Newcastle in 14th place, just above the relegation zone.

Brentford manager Keith Andrews highlighted the importance of maintaining composure during halftime. His team managed to overturn a deficit for the first time since November 2023. "It's always about the reactions," he stated, emphasising the need for calmness and effective transition management in securing their victory.

Newcastle's Away Form Woes Persist After Loss

Newcastle have now lost three consecutive away matches in the Premier League for the first time since January 2024. They have dropped more points from winning positions this season than any other team, totalling nine points lost. Howe acknowledged the team's poor performance and stressed the need for improvement across various areas.

Howe remains optimistic about his squad's ability to bounce back despite their current slump. He mentioned that a thorough analysis would be conducted during the international break to address their away form issues. "We need to find a solution," he said, expressing confidence in his players' character and resilience.

Brentford have been strong at home, winning four of their six league matches and collecting 13 points, matching the highest tally of any Premier League team. Andrews praised Igor Thiago's contribution, noting his eight league goals this season. "He has been pretty good, hasn't he?" Andrews remarked, acknowledging Thiago's growing confidence and impact on the team.

The Brazilian forward was instrumental in Brentford's success against Newcastle, scoring twice in the second half. Andrews recalled Thiago's previous performance against Newcastle last season as a pivotal moment for his side. Brentford's recent form has propelled them to 12th place in the standings.

Looking Ahead

As they approach another international break, Brentford are focused on maintaining their momentum and hunger for success. Andrews is pleased with his team's progress but remains committed to continuous improvement. "We are making good progress," he stated, highlighting their ambition and drive as key factors in their development this season.

Newcastle must regroup during this break to address their challenges and improve results moving forward. Howe emphasised unity within the squad and support from fans as crucial elements in overcoming their current difficulties.
