Newcastle United will face Nottingham Forest in the second round of the EFL Cup. Newcastle, who reached the final last season and qualified for the Champions League, missed out on European football for the 2024-25 campaign. This early entry into the EFL Cup is a result of that miss.
The Magpies have had success at the City Ground, winning there in each of the past two seasons. However, Forest has a better record in recent cup encounters, eliminating Newcastle at this stage in both 2017-18 and 2018-19. The teams will also meet in Nottingham for a league match in November.

Wednesday's draw was divided into northern and southern sections. West Ham will play Bournemouth in another all-Premier League clash. Wayne Rooney's Plymouth Argyle will travel to Watford, while Middlesbrough will host Stoke City after reaching the semi-finals last season and defeating Leeds United in the first round.
Everton, managed by Rooney's former side, will face Doncaster Rovers again, having beaten them a year ago. These ties are scheduled to be played during the week commencing August 26.
