Newcastle United Secures 2-0 Victory Over Chelsea To Advance In EFL Cup

Newcastle United triumphed over Chelsea with a 2-0 win at St James' Park, thanks to Alexander Isak and an Axel Disasi own goal. This victory marks their fourth EFL Cup quarter-final appearance in five seasons.

Newcastle United secured a spot in the EFL Cup quarter-finals by defeating Chelsea 2-0 at St James' Park. Eddie Howe's team scored twice within three minutes in the first half. Alexander Isak netted the first, and an own goal by Axel Disasi followed. This victory came just days after Chelsea beat Newcastle in the Premier League.

Early in the match, Joelinton hit the post from an Isak cross, while Renato Veiga's attempt for Chelsea narrowly missed. Newcastle took the lead in the 23rd minute when Sandro Tonali intercepted a pass and set up Isak, who calmly scored past Filip Jorgensen. Shortly after, Isak's deflected cross led to Joe Willock's involvement before Disasi inadvertently scored an own goal.

Newcastle Beats Chelsea to Reach EFL Cup Quarters

Chelsea tried to fight back, dominating much of the second half. Joao Felix came closest to scoring for them, narrowly missing with a chip shot in the 75th minute. William Osula nearly added a third for Newcastle during a quick counter-attack but struck the post instead. Despite these efforts, Newcastle maintained their two-goal advantage.

This win marks Newcastle's fourth appearance in an EFL Cup quarter-final over five seasons. Their only victory in six recent matches across all competitions was against AFC Wimbledon in the previous round. However, they defied expectations by beating Chelsea here. The Magpies remain unbeaten in their last 12 EFL Cup games when scoring first.

Newcastle's triumph handed Chelsea only their second defeat in 11 matches. The Magpies' consistent performance in this competition highlights their strength when taking an early lead. This victory adds another chapter to their impressive EFL Cup journey.
