Newcastle United Triumphs 2-1 Against Burnley After Holding Off Late Challenge From Ten Men

In a thrilling match, Newcastle United defeated Burnley 2-1, with goals from Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon. Despite a late penalty by Zian Flemming, Burnley's defeat marks their sixth consecutive loss.

Newcastle United secured a 2-1 victory over Burnley in the Premier League, marking a return to winning form. Goals from Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon helped Eddie Howe's team rise into the top half of the table. Despite Zian Flemming's late penalty for Burnley at St James' Park, Newcastle held on for the win.

Burnley started strong, with Aaron Ramsdale deflecting Lucas Pires' corner onto the crossbar. At the other end, Gordon hit the post from distance. The breakthrough came in the 31st minute when Guimaraes scored directly from a corner, beating Martin Dubravka.

Newcastle United Defeats Burnley 2-1 at Home

Guimaraes' goal was notable as it marked the 20th time a goal was scored directly from a corner in Premier League history and was a first for Newcastle. Meanwhile, Gordon doubled Newcastle's lead by converting a penalty after Lesley Ugochukwu handled the ball just before halftime.

The match saw Burnley's Lucas Pires receive a red card in his Premier League debut after tripping Anthony Elanga in the 43rd minute. This left Burnley with ten players for most of the game. Despite this setback, Flemming managed to score from the penalty spot in stoppage time after Jacob Ramsey's handball.

This defeat marked Burnley's sixth consecutive loss. They have now conceded at least two goals in each of their eight away games this season. Josh Laurent nearly equalised for Burnley with Marcus Edwards' cross but missed connecting with it as time ran out.

Newcastle's win continued their dominance over Burnley, having won their last seven league encounters against them. Gordon's penalty made him only the fourth Newcastle player to score penalties in back-to-back league matches, joining Alan Shearer, Callum Wilson, and Alexander Isak.

Despite their struggles, Flemming's goal tied him with Erling Haaland as one of only two players to score in each of their first four Premier League away games. This achievement provided some consolation for Burnley amid their challenging season.
