Eddie Howe expressed admiration for Newcastle United's adaptability after their commanding 3-0 victory over Wolves, marking their sixth consecutive Premier League win. Alexander Isak scored twice at St James' Park, becoming the fourth player to net in eight straight Premier League games. Anthony Gordon also found the back of the net, helping Newcastle equal a club record with nine consecutive wins across all competitions and moving them to fourth in the league standings.
Despite Wolves setting up a compact three-man defence to counter Isak and Gordon, Newcastle's attacking prowess proved overwhelming. Howe emphasised the importance of adapting their strategy, stating, "We had to be patient, and we had to play a different way... slightly." The team's ability to adjust was crucial in overcoming their opponents.

Howe acknowledged that patience was key as they dominated possession in the first half against a resolute Wolves side. He noted that while they were fortunate with the first goal, their overall performance warranted the win. "Depending on how the game pans out, you need different ways to win," he remarked. Despite securing nine consecutive victories across all competitions, Howe believes his team can still improve.
In contrast, Vitor Pereira's Wolves struggled offensively for the second consecutive Premier League match after a 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on January 6. The Portuguese coach, who took over from Gary O'Neil last month, faces a challenging task in steering Wolves away from relegation danger. He admitted that their lack of finishing touch was costly against Newcastle.
Pereira expressed frustration over missed opportunities despite creating several chances. "For a team like us creating six or seven chances to score, but we didn't score, this is the frustration we feel," he said. Although proud of his players' efforts, he lamented their inability to convert chances into goals. "We tried everything; we scored a goal; it was cancelled," Pereira added.
The match highlighted Newcastle's tactical flexibility and attacking strength as they continue their impressive run. Meanwhile, Wolves must address their scoring issues if they hope to climb out of relegation trouble under Pereira's guidance.
