Bengaluru, December 20: Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez is reportedly preparing an audacious attempt to try and bring Chelsea outcast David Luiz to Tyneside on loan.

The Brazilian defender is currently out of favour with the Blues after a fall-out with the manager Antonio Conte and Benitez wants to take this opportunity to bolster his backline in an attempt to save the Magpies' season.

Benitez and Luiz worked together at Chelsea and functioned well together as Benitez took the Blues all the way to the Europa League crown.

The Magpies will face plenty of competition from a host of Europe's big guns for the 30-year-old superstar, including Premier rivals Arsenal.

Real Madrid and Juventus are also said to be monitoring the former Paris Saint-Germain star's situation as well.

While, Real's rivals Barcelona also are interested in the Brazilian defender who is regarded as one of the best ball-playing defenders in the world, exactly what they love.

However, Benitez shares a close friendship with Luiz from his brief stint in West London and hopes that could help persuade him to join Newcastle's relegation fight.

The centre-half who can also play in midfield, has been sidelined with a "big inflammation" in his knee as per Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

However, speculation is mounting that the bust-up between the Italian and Luiz has seen their relationship completely deteriorate. Young Danish international Andreas Christensen has cemented his place in Luiz's role in the meantime and Chelsea reportedly are therefore looking to ship Luiz off.

Newcastle might have to face a severe competition for Luiz but they also have an advantage as they can offer the Brazilian a spot in the starting XI right away unlike other clubs.

The only other club where he will be an automatic starter is Arsenal and Chelsea are unlikely to let him move to their biggest rivals across the city.
