Neymar has expressed his commitment to continue playing football until he can no longer perform at his desired level. The 33-year-old recently extended his contract with Santos until the end of the year, with an option to extend it further until the 2026 World Cup. Despite recent challenges, Neymar's passion for the sport remains undiminished.
Since departing Paris Saint-Germain in 2023, Neymar has faced difficulties, making only 14 league appearances due to injuries during his time with Al-Hilal and Santos. He has not played for Brazil since October 2023 after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury against Uruguay. Nevertheless, retirement is not on his mind as he continues to cherish the game.

In an interview with his wife Bruna Biancardi, Neymar shared his enduring love for football. "What drives me is the love I still feel for football," he said, as quoted by ESPN. "The desire I feel to play, to be on the field, that's what drives me every day; to wake up, to train. The love I feel for football will never end. It will stay with me for the rest of my life."
Neymar acknowledges that there will come a time when he can no longer play because he cannot perform as he wishes. "At some point, the desire to play, because I can no longer do it, because I can no longer perform as I want to, will end," he stated. He understands that while his career will eventually conclude, his legacy will endure.
Reflecting on his future and legacy in football, Neymar remarked that although years will pass and new players and generations will emerge, what truly matters are those who know him personally. His name may remain in history long after he retires from playing professionally.
