Neymar Fitness Update: Brazil Hopeful For World Cup 2026 Despite Calf Injury

Neymar expects a recent calf problem to have little impact on Brazil’s World Cup plans. The 34-year-old forward is included in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, ending an absence of almost three years from national duty. Brazil’s staff still plan detailed checks, but the group remains optimistic about Neymar’s tournament readiness.

The Santos player recently watched a Copa Sudamericana match at Vila Belmiro and addressed concerns. Asked about the injured area, Neymar replied: "It's right here, in one piece." When reporters questioned whether the setback might affect World Cup participation, the former Barcelona attacker responded with a brief answer: "What problem?" Those remarks underlined Neymar’s confidence in recovery.

Neymar fitness hopeful for World Cup 2026

Brazil’s medical team intend to manage Neymar’s workload carefully before the competition. Staff are aware of bruising around the calf and will avoid rushing training sessions. Because of that issue, Neymar is expected to miss warm-up matches against Panama on 31 May and Egypt on 5 June, reducing any unnecessary risk.

Neymar sustained the injury on 17 May during Santos’ 3-0 defeat to Coritiba. The calf problem has already ruled Neymar out of three consecutive club fixtures. Despite that absence, Ancelotti decided to include Brazil’s record goalscorer, having always left the national team door open if full fitness could be demonstrated before the global tournament.

Neymar World Cup injury outlook for Brazil opener

The World Cup schedule adds pressure, with Brazil beginning against Morocco on 13 June. Even if rehabilitation takes longer than first thought, the Selecao still believe Neymar can feature in that opening game. Coaches and medical staff will watch progress closely, weighing match sharpness against the importance of long-term fitness.
