Nico Paz Poised To Return To Real Madrid, Says Zanetti

Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti expects Como forward Nico Paz to head back to Real Madrid when the current season finishes, despite strong Serie A form and interest from other European clubs. Paz is on loan at Como, who returned to Italy’s top division under Cesc Fabregas.

The 21-year-old Argentinian joined Como from Real Madrid before the 2024-25 campaign, helping Fabregas guide the club through their first season back in Serie A. Performances since then have lifted Paz into the league’s leading group of attacking players.

Nico Paz to Real Madrid Return, Zanetti Says

Madrid reportedly hold a right to re-sign Nico Paz that stays active until 2027, shaping his future market. Zanetti suggested that clause, plus Real Madrid’s long-term plans, makes any move for Inter or other teams difficult to achieve this year.

Asked about the forward, Zanetti said: "I admire him, and his father is a great friend of mine. He would fit well in any top side, but signing him is complicated. Surely, hell return to Real Madrid." Those comments highlight Inter’s admiration but also acceptance of Madrid’s position.

Paz has become Como’s main attacking reference this season. Only Lautaro Martinez, with 16 goals, and Marcus Thuram, with 13, have scored more Serie A goals than Paz, who has 12. In the 2025-26 campaign, Paz has directly contributed to 18 league goals for Como.

He has also supplied the most chances for Como in Serie A, creating 51 opportunities for team-mates. Within the club’s history, only Giuseppe Baldini, with 13 goals in 1951-52, and Vittorio Ghiandi, with 18 in 1949-50, have scored more in a single Serie A season for Como.

Nico Paz Real Madrid interest from Europe and Como situation

Paz’s output has attracted attention across major leagues. Tottenham reportedly saw a bid rejected last summer, while rumours in Italy link Inter with interest. However, Zanetti’s remarks underline that Real Madrid’s option, and the player’s origins there, remain central factors.

Como currently sit sixth in Serie A, three points behind Juventus, who hold the final Champions League position. Fabregas’ side meet Verona on Sunday in their next league match, with Paz again expected to play a key attacking role in their push for Europe.
