Ange Postecoglou Emphasises Hard Work Over Magic Cure For Tottenham's Struggles Ahead Of Everton Match

Ange Postecoglou has stated there is no quick fix for Tottenham's poor form as they prepare to face Everton. Both teams are struggling in the Premier League, with Everton also facing relegation concerns.

Tottenham's manager, Ange Postecoglou, has acknowledged the team's poor form, stating there is no quick fix as they prepare to face Everton in the Premier League on Sunday. Tottenham recently lost 2-1 to Arsenal, marking their fifth consecutive league game without a win. Despite cup victories over Liverpool and Tamworth offering some hope for a trophy this season, their league performance suggests European qualification is unlikely.

Everton also faces challenges, having lost 1-0 to Aston Villa in David Moyes' first game back. They are just above the relegation zone and missed several chances against Villa. Moyes believes it will take time for their attack to improve, saying, "It'll take more than a few days for me to really see that." He expressed gratitude for returning to Merseyside but remains cautious until results improve.

Postecoglou on Tottenham's Struggles Ahead of Everton

Postecoglou emphasised hard work as the only solution for Spurs' issues. "You've got no choice," he said. "There's no magic cure. You've got to get up tomorrow, work hard and go into Sunday and prepare to go into battle and turn around our fortunes and our season." He admitted their league results have been inadequate and need improvement.

Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin has struggled, failing to score in 16 consecutive league games. Everton has scored only five goals in 11 matches since November, with two being own goals by Craig Dawson against Wolves. They have failed to score in 12 games this season, joining Norwich City (2021-22), Southampton (2003-04), and Derby County (2007-08) in this unfortunate record.

Tottenham captain Son Heung-min has been effective against Everton, contributing to 10 goals in his 12 Premier League starts against them. He has scored seven times and assisted three goals during these encounters.

Match Prediction: A Draw Likely

Both teams have started 2025 with consecutive Premier League losses. Everton has begun a calendar year with three straight defeats six times before, most recently in 2022 and 2023. Tottenham has experienced this twice historically (1993 and 1994). Despite cup wins boosting morale, Tottenham's poor league form puts Postecoglou under pressure.

Tottenham remains unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League visits to Goodison Park but has drawn eight of those matches. They aim for their first league double over Everton since the 2017-18 season after winning the reverse fixture 4-0 in August.

Historical Fixture Trends

The Everton versus Tottenham fixture at Goodison Park holds the record for most draws in Premier League history, with 17 of their 32 meetings ending level. The last five encounters have all been draws; no specific fixture has ever ended level six times consecutively in Premier League history.

According to Opta's win probability model, Tottenham holds a slight edge with a 39.2% chance of winning compared to Everton's 34.4%. The likelihood of a draw stands at 26.4%, reflecting the historical tendency for these teams to share points when they meet at Goodison Park.
