NorthEast United FC enters the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season with renewed optimism after winning their first-ever trophy, the Durand Cup.
Following a seventh-place finish last season, the Highlanders are eager to break into the playoffs and establish themselves as title contenders under head coach Juan Pedro Benali.

NorthEast United Last Season
Despite flashes of brilliance, NorthEast United FC struggled with consistency throughout the 2023-24 ISL season. The team remained in contention for a playoff spot until late in the campaign but ultimately finished seventh, just one point behind sixth-placed Chennaiyin FC. However, their Durand Cup triumph showed the team's potential under Benali's leadership.
The Highlanders have retained much of their core squad, offering continuity that could prove crucial in the upcoming season. However, they parted ways with top scorer Tomi Juric, along with several other key players, including Manvir Singh and Rochharzela.
To strengthen the squad, NorthEast United brought in forwards Guillermo Fernandez and Aleaddine Ajaraie, both of whom have already made significant contributions, helping the team lift the Durand Cup.
Transfers In:
Guillermo Fernandez, Aleaddine Ajaraie, Robin Yadav, Muthu Irulandi Mayakkannan, Ankith P.
Transfers Out:
Tomi Juric, Manvir Singh, Rochharzela, Gani Nigam, Gaurav Bora, Hira Mondal.
Nestor Albiach
Albiach was NorthEast United's most influential player last season, contributing five goals and creating numerous chances. His ability to play multiple roles makes him a key asset, and his contributions will be vital to the Highlanders' success this season.
Parthib Gogoi
After a breakout campaign in 2023-24, Gogoi will look to build on his five-goal tally from last season. Known for his ability to score from difficult angles, he'll aim to become one of NorthEast United's leading scorers this year.
Jithin MS
Jithin emerged as a standout player during the Durand Cup, where he was named Man of the Tournament after scoring four goals and assisting three. His performances in the tournament suggest he could be a crucial figure in the ISL.
What to Expect in ISL 2024-25
Under Benali, NorthEast United FC will continue their fearless, attacking style of play. With their recent success in the Durand Cup, the team has momentum and confidence heading into the new ISL season.
The Highlanders will target a playoff spot for the first time since the 2020-21 campaign and aim to build on their improving defensive structure while maintaining their offensive flair.

NorthEast United kicks off their season with an away fixture against newly-promoted Mohammedan SC. In Matchweek 2, they face a major test against Mohun Bagan Super Giant in a rematch of the Durand Cup final. The year will conclude with an away game against Mumbai City FC, providing a challenging end to 2024.
