By MyKhel Staff

NorthEast United FC secured a commanding 4-0 victory over East Bengal FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong in their final league match of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season.

This marked their 10th win of the campaign, bringing their total points to 38 after 24 games as they head into the playoffs. Notably, this was the eighth time they netted three or more goals in a match this season and their first-ever ISL triumph in Shillong.

East Bengal had a few early opportunities, with Cleiton Silva coming close in the 22nd minute from a well-struck free-kick that narrowly missed the target. However, NorthEast United gradually found their rhythm, with Alaaeddine Ajaraie creating chances from the left flank. In the 32nd minute, he set up Nestor Albiach, whose header was denied by East Bengal goalkeeper Debjit Majumder.

The breakthrough came in the 59th minute when Ajaraie's clever back-heel pass found Tondonba Singh, who delivered a precise cross into the box. Nestor met it cleanly, driving the ball into the bottom right corner to open the scoring. Seven minutes later, a corner from Guillermo Fernandez led to a powerful strike from Macarton Nickson, which Debjit saved, but Ajaraie pounced on the rebound to double the lead.

Ajaraie continued to torment East Bengal's defense and won a penalty in the 79th minute after being brought down by Tanmay Das. He calmly slotted it into the bottom right corner. Das was later sent off in the 84th minute, leaving East Bengal with 10 men. NorthEast United capitalized on their dominance, adding a fourth goal in the 86th minute when Mohammed Ali Bemammer slotted home from a goalmouth scramble following a corner.

With this emphatic win, the Highlanders wrapped up their league campaign on a high, carrying strong momentum into the playoffs.
