NorthEast United vs Bengaluru FC Preview: Highlanders Aim to Protect Top Spot ahead of Bengaluru Visit
NorthEast United FC will look to maintain their position at the top of the MG Indian Super League 2026-27 table when they welcome Bengaluru FC to the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday, October 30.
The Highlanders have made an encouraging start to the campaign, collecting seven points from their first three matches. Victories over Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Kerala Blasters FC, followed by a goalless draw against Odisha FC, have put them at the summit. However, they face a stern test against an unbeaten Bengaluru side eager to close the gap.

Benali Emphasises Winning Mentality
NorthEast United head coach Juan Pedro Benali believes the team's growing confidence has been a major factor behind their early-season performances.
"The mentality. We go into every game with the mentality that we are no longer the underdogs," he said, highlighting the collective belief within the squad.
Benali acknowledged that Bengaluru's tactical discipline and quality across the pitch would make Friday's encounter challenging.
"Bengaluru are tactically strong and have some very good players. They also have a good coach who knows exactly what he is doing. It will not be easy," he said.
Gurmeet Singh Confident Ahead of Bengaluru Challenge
Goalkeeper Gurmeet Singh has played an important role in NorthEast United's defensive solidity, recording two clean sheets so far this season. He will be expected to play another key role against a Bengaluru attack that has scored five goals in its opening two fixtures.
"They are a good side, of course, but we are confident in our own qualities. As the coach said, it will be a good game for the fans, and I think we are ready for the challenge," Gurmeet said.
The goalkeeper also highlighted the importance of maintaining composure, communicating effectively and keeping the team compact, particularly when playing out from the back under pressure.
Bengaluru FC Look to Extend Unbeaten Start
Bengaluru FC have collected six points from two matches and have a game in hand on the league leaders. The Blues began their campaign with a 3-2 win over Sporting Club Delhi before defeating Chennaiyin FC 2-0.
NEUFC vs BFC Head-to-Head Record and Recent Meetings
Bengaluru FC have historically enjoyed the advantage in this fixture. Across 19 previous meetings, the Blues have registered nine victories, compared with two wins for NorthEast United, while eight matches have ended in draws. Their most recent encounter, in February 2026, finished 1-1 in Bengaluru. NorthEast United also recorded a 2-1 away win in November 2024, demonstrating their ability to challenge the Blues.
Despite their strong start, Benali insists that NorthEast United will not be distracted by their league position or future fixtures.
"We do not think beyond the next game," he said. "The most important thing is this game. Only this game matters right now."
The Highlanders will hope their attacking quality, defensive organisation and home support can help them overcome Bengaluru and retain their place at the top of the ISL table.
