NorthEast United are facing off against Hyderabad FC in matchweek 9 of the Indian Super League 2023-24 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday (December 10).
NorthEast United are looking to make the most out of home comfort after they suffered a 0-5 hammering to East Bengal last week. Meanwhile, for bottom-placed Hyderabad FC, the game is all about their maiden win of the ISL 2023-24 season.
Hyderabad FC, a team that was a title contender until last year, has a lot of thinking to do following a change in the coaching staff during the summer and the addition of new players. They have drawn three times and lost five thus far, and after eight games this time, they are still without a win.
Head coach Thangboi Singto is concerned about their tendency to look unconvincing while progressing. The team has a solid foundation on which to build, consisting of several Indian youth players who have performed well for them in the past, including Mohammad Yasir, Chinglensana Singh, Nikhil Poojary, and Hitesh Sharma, among others.
Their international roster appears to be of high caliber as well; during a performance, Joe Knowles is a sight to behold. But not everyone in the unit has clicked at the same time, so after each encounter, they have never had enough. They take on the Highlanders, whose thrilling season began on Monday night in Kolkata with a 5-0 loss to East Bengal FC.
Juan Pedro Benali must have been more affected by the manner of the defeat than by the actual result. In order to keep the team from going into a downward spiral, it is imperative that they bounce back from such setbacks fast. Benali will be looking to atone for that in Guwahati.
