This win placed NorthEast United at the top of Group E with nine points from three matches, while Odisha FC finished their campaign with three points.

All 43 matches of the 133rd IndianOil Durand Cup are being broadcast live on Sony Sports Network (Sony Ten2 HD) and streamed on the SonyLiv OTT platform.

Juan Pedro Benali fielded a strong and experienced lineup for the crucial match against Amit Rana's young Odisha side, with NorthEast United aiming for a knockout spot and Odisha looking to finish on a positive note.

Mirshad M.K started in goal for the Highlanders, becoming the third goalkeeper used in as many matches. Jithin M.S scored twice within three minutes during the first 20 minutes of the match, first slotting home after receiving a through ball.

Then they capitalized on a defensive error by Odisha's captain, Lalliansanga. Despite Odisha's higher possession in the first half, they struggled to create clear chances, while NorthEast United remained a constant threat, particularly through the lively Jithin M.S.

Odisha started the second half strongly but conceded again when Thoi Singh's cross was deflected into the net by Odisha's Tankadhar Bag. Odisha's best moment came when Paogoumang Singson scored a spectacular long-range goal, their only highlight in the match.

However, NorthEast soon responded with Guillermo Fernandez calmly finishing off a pass from Moroccan forward Ajaraie. The Highlanders sealed their dominant performance with a fifth goal, as Thoi Singh scored after being set up by Mohammed Ali Bemmamer, securing NorthEast United's place in the knockouts for the second straight year.
