As we come towards the end of the year, a lot of things happened in the last 12 months as far as world football is concerned. It was another 365 days of thrills and spills and the fans were treated with the best of actions they can think of.

But when it comes to the most searched athletes on google, the likes of superstars in Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, didn't make the cut in the 2024 list. Instead, it was 3 Spanish stars - Lamine Yamal, Rodri and Nico Williams, who all broke the dominance.

Lamine Yamal

Without a single doubt, Lamine Yamal is one of the biggest names in world football right now and arguably the best young talent presently. As a 17-year-old teenager, he not only made his mark in La Liga for FC Barcelona but played a pivotal role in guiding Spain to their record 4th title. He has been consistently compared to the great Lionel Messi, when it comes to playing style and quite obviously the fans would search about such a high-rated prodigy. He occupies the 3rd spot.

Rodri

Another huge name that anchored the Spanish Armada during EURO 2024 and in the 2022-23 season, he was perhaps the main man behind Manchester City's treble-winning campaign. This year, to everyone's surprise, the defensive midfielder won the Ballon d'Or. Many has labelled it as controversial as Vinicus Jr, who had a better 2023-24 with Real Madrid finished 2nd. This controversy spiked up search volumes by leaps and bounds and it provides justice, why he is in the list. The 28-year-old is in 10th position.

Nico Williams

The 22-year-old turned out to be one of the key players, who propelled La Roja to victory in the Euros. Williams' performance after the Euros, made him heavily linked with Barcelona and it was built as the one of the biggest moves of the transfer window, but the winger showed loyalty to Athletic Bilbao and the talked-about deal didn't materalise. He happens to be in 6th position.
