Nottingham Forest Aims To Regain Champions League Momentum Against Tottenham Hotspur

Nottingham Forest looks to bounce back in their Champions League quest as they face Tottenham Hotspur. Both teams are under pressure, with Spurs needing a win to improve their league standing.

Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest are at opposite ends of the Premier League standings. Both teams face crucial matches ahead. Forest is in pursuit of a Champions League spot, with competition for European football intensifying. Their hold on third place weakened after recent losses, allowing Newcastle United to overtake them. Forest aims to return to winning form on Monday.

Tottenham's season has been challenging, with manager Ange Postecoglou under scrutiny. Despite this, they remain in contention for silverware after securing a Europa League semi-final spot last Thursday. This achievement has slightly eased the pressure on Postecoglou. However, Spurs need momentum in their final six league games to avoid a disappointing finish.

Forest Seeks Champions League Revival vs Spurs

Earlier this month, Forest was third in the table after defeating Manchester United 1-0. However, they have since lost two consecutive Premier League matches. Under Nuno Espirito Santo, they have only experienced three straight defeats once before, between February and March last season. Newcastle's recent win pushed Forest down to fourth place.

The Opta supercomputer suggests Forest has a 71.4% chance of securing a Champions League spot but is most likely to finish fifth at 30.5%. They have won 12 of their last 14 league games against teams starting the day in the bottom half (L2). Their nine-match winning streak in such games ended against Everton.

Tottenham has won their last three home league matches against Forest, having previously won just one of 11 encounters (D2 L8). Their recent home victory was a 3-1 win over Southampton earlier this month. In contrast, Forest's reverse fixture win ended a six-game losing streak against Spurs in the Premier League.

The Opta supercomputer predicts a close match with a draw probability of 24.9%. Spurs have a slight edge with a 38.9% chance of winning due to home advantage, while Forest's chances stand at 36.3% based on pre-match simulations.

Key Players to Watch

Mathys Tel has scored in his last two Premier League appearances for Tottenham. He became only the fifth teenager to achieve this feat for Spurs, following Dele Alli in February 2016. No teenager has scored in three consecutive matches for Spurs yet.

Jota Silva has scored as a substitute in his last two away Premier League games for Nottingham Forest. All three of his goals came off the bench from 13 shots, while he hasn't scored as a starter despite eight attempts.

Postecoglou's Challenges

Ange Postecoglou remains determined despite Tottenham's struggles this season. Many believed Thursday's match would decide his future, but Spurs secured a crucial 1-0 win over Frankfurt thanks to Dominic Solanke's penalty. "Unfortunately, you're going to have to put up with me for a little longer," Postecoglou remarked post-match.

This season, Tottenham has suffered 17 Premier League defeats—their highest since the 2003-04 season when they lost 19 times and finished 14th. Only Southampton (26), Leicester (22), and Ipswich (19) have more losses than Spurs this season.

Forest's Strong Defence

Nuno Espirito Santo sees Monday as an opportunity for Forest to regain their top-five push with one of the league's best defences behind them—only Liverpool and Arsenal have conceded fewer than Forest's 38 goals this term.

The Easter weekend could be pivotal for Forest; they have lost only two of their last 35 league games played on Easter Monday (W21 D12). In top-flight history, they are unbeaten in their last 16 Easter Monday matches since losing to Chelsea in 1966 (W13 D3).

As both teams prepare for Monday’s clash at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, each side will aim to secure vital points that could shape their respective seasons significantly.
