Nottingham Forest Aims To Excel In FA Cup Quarter-Finals, Nuno Espirito Santo States

Nottingham Forest is focused on progressing in the FA Cup after reaching the quarter-finals. Manager Nuno Espirito Santo expresses optimism and commitment to the competition despite Premier League challenges.

Nottingham Forest's recent triumph over Ipswich Town in a penalty shoot-out has propelled them into the FA Cup quarter-finals. Nuno Espirito Santo expressed his determination to pursue the competition vigorously. Matz Sels' crucial save against Jack Taylor's attempt secured Forest's 5-4 victory after a 1-1 draw at the City Ground. This marks their second quarter-final appearance in four seasons, having previously reached this stage in 2021-22.

Forest's journey in the FA Cup has seen them reach the last eight twice in recent years, contrasting with just one appearance in the previous 29 campaigns. Their last advancement beyond this stage was as runners-up to Tottenham in the 1990-91 season. The club's only FA Cup victories came in 1897-98 and 1958-59. Despite their Premier League ambitions, Nuno remains committed to giving the FA Cup a serious effort.

Forest Aims for Success in FA Cup

"I'm really happy," Nuno told BBC Sport, reflecting on their progress. "We have so many hopes and in the FA Cup we want to go as far as we can. In penalties, the emotions are always high." He emphasised that while their focus shifts back to the Premier League, the FA Cup remains significant for them.

Forest's success in penalty shoot-outs continues to be impressive. They overcame third-tier Exeter City with a 4-2 win in an earlier round, maintaining an unbeaten record of four shoot-out victories in the competition. Only Macclesfield Town and Stevenage have better records with five wins each. Nuno highlighted their consistent practice of penalties, stating it forms an essential part of game preparations.

Nuno described penalties as a mix of anxiety and nervousness but acknowledged their importance: "It's dedication... I try not to watch and just wait for the noise!" This approach underscores his belief that thorough preparation is key to success.

Upcoming Quarter-Final Challenges

In their upcoming quarter-final clash, Forest will face Brighton, whom they recently defeated 7-0 in a Premier League match. Other quarter-final fixtures include Fulham hosting Crystal Palace, Aston Villa travelling to Preston North End, and Bournemouth taking on Manchester City.

The team's focus remains on balancing both league and cup commitments effectively. As they continue their journey, Forest aims to build on their recent successes and make further strides in both competitions.
