Nottingham Forest Celebrates FA Cup Semi-Final Spot After Dramatic Penalty Shoot-Out Win Over Brighton

Nottingham Forest achieved a historic FA Cup semi-final berth after defeating Brighton in a penalty shoot-out. This marks their first semi-final appearance in 34 years, showcasing their strong performance throughout the competition.

Nuno Espirito Santo experienced a significant moment as Nottingham Forest secured their place in the FA Cup semi-finals by defeating Brighton in a penalty shoot-out. This marks Forest's first appearance in the last four of the competition in 34 years, following a 4-3 victory on penalties after a goalless draw over 120 minutes. Matz Sels was instrumental, saving penalties from Jack Hinshelwood and Diego Gomez, while Ryan Yates scored the decisive spot-kick.

Forest's season has been remarkable, with the team also sitting third in the Premier League, six points ahead of fifth-place Manchester City with nine games left. "It was such a stressful moment and to share it with our fans, we are so happy," Nuno told BBC Sport. "Perfection doesn't exist, but we did really well to control Brighton in terms of their possession."

Forest Advances to FA Cup Semi-Finals

Nottingham Forest made history by becoming the first team to win three penalty shoot-outs in a single FA Cup campaign, having previously defeated Exeter City and Ipswich Town this way. "It is amazing for the supporters, so I am happy that I could help the team," said Sels. "In penalty shoot-outs, you always need a little bit of luck."

Nikola Milenkovic expressed his joy at playing at Wembley and shared his excitement about celebrating with fans after Yates' winning penalty. "We are very happy that we could go over to our fans and spend time with them," he added.

Brighton missed out on reaching their third FA Cup semi-final in seven seasons. Joao Pedro had a goal disallowed for offside during extra-time. Fabian Hurzeler acknowledged his team's shortcomings, noting they failed to perform at their best and needed to respond positively.

"We were not resilient enough, not good enough and that is why we didn't win the game today," Hurzeler stated. He emphasised the importance of internal analysis and improvement on minor details while taking responsibility for his young players' penalty misses.

Looking Ahead

Despite Brighton's disappointment, Hurzeler urged his team not to let this setback affect them negatively. He encouraged them to show resilience and unity moving forward. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest looks forward to their upcoming challenges with optimism as they continue their impressive season.

The journey continues for Nottingham Forest as they prepare for both their FA Cup semi-final and remaining Premier League fixtures. The team's achievements have brought joy to their supporters, creating memorable moments throughout this season.
