Nottingham Forest Manager Nuno Espirito Santo Cautions Team On Achievements Despite Premier League Success

Despite Nottingham Forest's recent success in the Premier League, manager Nuno Espirito Santo stresses that the team has not achieved anything yet. He urges players to maintain focus and continue working hard.

Nottingham Forest's manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, emphasised that his team has not accomplished anything significant yet, even after climbing to second place in the Premier League with a victory over Everton. Forest secured their first top-flight win against Everton since 1999 with a 2-0 triumph at Goodison Park. Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White scored in each half to ensure the win.

Forest's recent form has been impressive, winning their last five Premier League matches. This marks their longest winning streak in the competition since March and April of 1995. Despite surpassing their entire points total from the previous season after just 19 games, Nuno remains cautious about Champions League qualification expectations.

Nuno Warns Nottingham Forest on Achievements

Nuno highlighted his team's strong performance against Everton, noting the challenge due to both teams having limited rest. "We are competing really well, especially in this game. It was very tough and both teams had a very short period of rest," he told BBC MOTD. He praised his players for their organisation and commitment, which allowed them to exploit spaces effectively.

A last-minute change in the lineup required a reset and reorganisation for Forest. The players adapted well to this adjustment, demonstrating confidence and composure in the final third. "It is confidence, the belief and the knowledge that in the final third you need composure," Nuno added. However, he stressed that despite scoring beautiful goals, they haven't achieved anything substantial yet.

Chris Wood echoed his manager's sentiments after scoring his 11th Premier League goal of the season on Sunday. The New Zealand international has now netted 22 top-flight goals under Nuno, matching Stan Collymore's record for a Forest player under one manager. "It is nice [to be second], but we are not worried about that," Wood told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Wood emphasised the importance of focusing on each game individually rather than getting carried away by their current league position. His perspective aligns with Nuno's cautious approach as they aim to maintain consistency throughout the season.

Everton's Struggles Continue

For Everton and manager Sean Dyche, their four-game unbeaten run ended with this defeat, dropping them to 16th place in the table but still three points clear of relegation danger. Everton registered only 132 shots on target and scored 31 goals in 2024, marking them as having the fewest among ever-present clubs this year.

The Toffees have also failed to win their final Premier League match of the year for four consecutive years (D2 L2). Dyche expressed frustration over his team's inability to penetrate Forest's compact defence despite recent successes against Arsenal and Chelsea.

Challenges Against Compact Defences

"We didn't deliver it anywhere near in the first half, and they did," Dyche said regarding Everton's performance against Forest. He acknowledged that breaking down a packed defence is challenging once they take the lead. "I don't think they had too many chances, but a packed defence is hard to break down," he added.

Dyche admitted that his team didn't pose enough questions overall against a side adept at closing out games effectively. This highlights an area where Everton needs improvement if they are to climb higher up the table as they move forward into future matches.
