Nottingham Forest have strengthened their squad by signing defender Jair Cunha from Botafogo. This follows the recent addition of striker Igor Jesus from the same club. Cunha, a towering centre-back at six-foot-six, has committed to a five-year deal with Forest. He played in all four of Botafogo's matches at the Club World Cup, scoring in their 2-1 win over Seattle Sounders.
Cunha joined Botafogo in February after progressing through Santos' youth system. He made 24 appearances for Botafogo and debuted for Brazil's under-20 team earlier this year. The 20-year-old will reunite with Jesus, who recently completed a £10 million move to Forest. Reports suggest left-back Cuiabano might also join them in Nottingham soon.

Ross Wilson, Forest's chief football officer, expressed excitement about Cunha's arrival: "Jair is a young talent who has shown quality during his time in Brazil, and we are happy to have secured his signature." Wilson added that Cunha has thrived in Brazil and now aims to make his mark in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest are reportedly considering legal action against Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs are close to signing Morgan Gibbs-White after triggering a £60 million release clause. However, Forest allege that Tottenham approached Gibbs-White without permission.
Gibbs-White was instrumental for Forest last season, creating 51 chances as they finished seventh and qualified for the Conference League. His creativity was unmatched at the club, with 66 chances created in 2022-23 and 74 in 2023-24, setting records for a single Premier League campaign since 2003-04.
In another potential transfer, winger Anthony Elanga is reportedly nearing a move to Newcastle United for around £55 million. This could be another significant departure for Forest as they navigate the transfer market.
The potential legal dispute with Tottenham highlights the competitive nature of transfers involving top players like Gibbs-White. As Nottingham Forest continue their preparations for the upcoming season, these developments underscore their ambitions and challenges in maintaining a strong squad.
