Nuno Espirito Santo expressed disappointment over Nottingham Forest's first-half display against Newcastle United, which he described as unrecognisable. Despite Callum Hudson-Odoi's early goal giving Forest a sixth-minute lead, they were quickly overwhelmed by four Newcastle goals within 11 minutes. Alexander Isak scored twice, including a penalty, while Lewis Miley and Jacob Murphy also found the net.
Forest managed to respond in the second half with Nikola Milenkovic scoring after the hour mark and Ryan Yates adding another in the 90th minute. However, they couldn't find an equaliser and lost 4-3 on Sunday. Nuno told Sky Sports, "First half, clearly Newcastle better. The second half was better, but unfortunately not enough."

The first half saw Newcastle dominate as Forest struggled to keep up. Nuno admitted that his team made numerous mistakes during this period. "We started well, we scored, and they just rolled over us," he said. Every time Newcastle had possession, they seemed to score effortlessly.
In contrast to their opponents' performance, Forest had five shots worth only 0.25 expected goals (xG) compared to Newcastle's 2.92 xG in the first half. This disparity highlighted the challenges Forest faced defensively.
Despite trailing by three goals at halftime, Forest showed significant improvement after the break. They registered 12 attempts and scored with both shots on target while accumulating 1.93 xG compared to Newcastle's 0.14 xG in the second half.
Nuno believed that if more than three additional minutes had been added at St. James' Park, his team could have equalised. "I wish there was 10 minutes added on," he stated confidently.
This defeat marked Forest's third consecutive away loss in the league for the first time since December 2023. Nuno acknowledged that both teams made errors but emphasised how different each half was.
"It's about trying to settle down, calm down and try to be ourselves," Nuno explained regarding their approach moving forward. He plans to reflect on this game as part of their ongoing development process.
