Bhubaneswar, October 13: Odisha FC head coach T.G. Purushothaman and captain Lalthathanga Khawlhring, popularly known as Puitea, have stressed the importance of teamwork, adaptability and consistency as the Juggernauts prepare to begin their MG Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27 campaign against Punjab FC.

Odisha FC will open their season with an away fixture against Punjab FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, aiming to improve on last season's performance and convert their efforts into consistent results. With several new signings joining the existing squad, establishing team chemistry will be a key priority for the club.

Speaking ahead of the season opener, Purushothaman acknowledged the challenges posed by the team's limited pre-season preparations but insisted that the players must adapt quickly and focus on delivering strong performances.

"As professionals, we have to adapt to the situation. We need to turn the negatives into positives and focus on performing well," the Odisha FC head coach said.

Purushothaman also underlined the importance of maintaining the club's identity, highlighting the need for commitment, determination and healthy competition within the squad.

"Our identity is clear, fight for everything and give your best until the referee blows the final whistle," he added.

Captain Puitea, meanwhile, expressed confidence in the team's atmosphere, pointing to the positive relationship between the new arrivals and the established players. He emphasised the importance of unity and collective responsibility as Odisha FC look to make a winning start to their campaign.

Addressing his appointment as captain following the departures of Carlos Delgado and Amrinder Singh, Puitea described the responsibility as an honour rather than a source of pressure.

"I don't see it as pressure; I take it as an honour. It won't be easy, but I will take as much responsibility as I can and always be there for the team, the staff and the club," he said.
In another development, Purushothaman confirmed that Rahul KP would miss the season opener due to a minor injury. The club has decided against risking the player at this early stage of the season.

As Odisha FC embarks on their new ISL campaign, the team will look to build cohesion, maintain consistency, and translate their potential into results. Their opening clash against Punjab FC will provide an early test of their preparations and ambitions for the 2026-27 season.
