Ezequiel Vidal was instrumental in attack, operating in a free role and finding gaps in Odisha's defense. His corner delivery found Ivan Novoselec, but the defender's attempt was blocked. Shortly after, Vidal set up Petros Giakoumakis, whose headed effort found the back of the net, only for the linesman to flag him offside.

Odisha FC responded by focusing on possession play, looking for openings. In the 20th minute, Isak Vanlalruatfela played a clever lobbed pass to Hugo Boumous, but the Frenchman was caught offside. Punjab FC had another great opportunity in the 26th minute when Boumous lost possession in midfield.

Filip Mrzljak surged forward but opted to pass instead of taking the shot, squandering a promising attack. The match took a dramatic turn in the 44th minute when Odisha FC's Rahul KP was sent off for a reckless challenge on Mrzljak. With Odisha down to 10 men, Punjab FC capitalized quickly.

In stoppage time of the first half (45+2'), Ricky Shabong played a precise through ball to Giakoumakis, who slotted the ball into the top corner past Amrinder Singh, giving Punjab a deserved lead. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Odisha FC came out fighting in the second half.

Their persistence paid off in the 52nd minute when Isak and Diego Mauricio combined to test Punjab's goalkeeper Ravi Kumar. The shot, which seemed like a routine save, slipped through Kumar's grasp and crossed the line, leveling the score at 1-1. Punjab FC introduced Luka Majcen, Asmir Suljic, and Asish Pradhan to inject fresh energy into their attack.

Majcen was a constant threat, and in the 88th minute, Mrzljak's shot rattled the post, with Majcen's rebound effort deflected wide by Rahim Ali. Odisha had a golden opportunity in stoppage time when Isak set up Boumous inside the box. However, Kumar redeemed himself with a crucial save.

Carlos Delgado was named Key Performer of the Match for his defensive heroics, stepping up in Mourtada Fall's absence with 10 clearances and four interceptions. Odisha FC will next face Hyderabad FC on February 14, while Punjab FC take on Chennaiyin FC on February 15.
