Okoro's goal gives Md Sporting second win in Sahara football

By Staff

Barasat, West Bengal, Jul 16 (UNI) Mike Okoro's spectacular first half goal earned Mohammedan Sporting a vital win against fighting Peerless Sporting Club in the Sahara Premier Division League here today.

Nigerian born Okoro, famous for his changing hairstyle, played a stellar role to fashion the victory for Mohammedan Sporting.

Latching on to an aerial pass, Okoro first dribbled past an onrushing Satish Bharti and then goalie Arunava from the left flank before slotting home in the 40th mintue. The goal was the 31st of Okoro's 39 appearances in the Kolkata league.

This was PSC's third straight defeat in as many matches in the eight-team championship and Md Sporting maintained their clean record bagging six points.

In the opener, Sabir Ali's side had defeated Railway FC 3-1.

Both rivals had some scoring chances but the slushy ground came in the way.

Md Sporting could have surged ahead within the first four minutes, had Theo's shot not hit the woodwork.

Seven minutes after the break, Prasanta Chakraborty got a scoring chance, but his shot sailed over the goalpost.

With this win, Md Sporting avenged two defeats at the hands of PSC last year.
