Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Takes Charge As Besiktas' New Head Coach On 18-Month Contract

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed as the new head coach of Besiktas on an 18-month contract. He replaces Giovanni van Bronckhorst and aims to improve the team's position in the Turkish Super Lig.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has returned to football management as the new head coach of Besiktas. The former Manchester United manager signed an 18-month contract with the Turkish Super Lig team, including an option to extend for the 2026-27 season. This marks Solskjaer's first managerial role since leaving Old Trafford in November 2021, succeeding Giovanni van Bronckhorst at Tupras Stadyumu.

Besiktas currently sits sixth in the Turkish Super Lig standings, trailing leaders Galatasaray by 21 points. Solskjaer will lead the team into their upcoming match against Samsunspor on Saturday. "We believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will make significant contributions to our club, and we warmly welcome him to the Besiktas family, wishing him great success," stated the Istanbul club.

Solskjaer Named New Head Coach of Besiktas

Solskjaer previously managed Molde, where he won two titles across two tenures. He also had a brief stint at Cardiff City before taking over Manchester United initially as an interim manager in December 2018. As a player, he achieved six Premier League titles and a Champions League victory with United between 1996 and 2007.

After three months as interim manager, Solskjaer was appointed permanently at Manchester United. During his tenure, he managed 168 matches across all competitions, achieving a win rate of 54.17% with 91 victories. In the Premier League, his teams averaged 1.81 points per game.

Under Solskjaer's leadership, Manchester United finished second in the Premier League and reached the Europa League final during the 2020-21 season. However, a decline in performance led to his departure from the club a few months later.

Besiktas is optimistic about Solskjaer's potential impact on their team as they aim to improve their league standing. His experience and past successes are expected to bring valuable insights and strategies to the Turkish side.

The appointment of Solskjaer represents a new chapter for both him and Besiktas as they strive for success in domestic competitions. The club's supporters eagerly anticipate how his leadership will shape their future performances on the field.
