Pakistan football team are up for another acid test in their third Group G match of FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers as they host Asian Cup finalists Jordan at the Jinnah Sports Stadium in Islamabad on Thursday (March 21).
Following losses in their previous games, both teams are looking for a much-needed win to help them get back on track. In their last group match on November 21, Pakistan lost 6-1 against Tajikistan at this very venue, marking their 15th defeat in 17 games across all competitions.
Stephen Constantine's team got one back through Rahis Nabi after giving up goals to Amadoni Kamolov and Rustam Soirov in short succession. Goals from Parvizdzhon Umarbaev, Ehsoni Panshanbe, Kamolov, and Shakhrom Samiev then completed the victory.
As a result, the Falcons are at the bottom of the group and have not yet gained a point. Next up comes a matchup with a team that won both of the previous iterations of this match by a total score of 8-1, however both matches date back to 1993. The hosts, who have conceded 11 goals in their last three home games, will need to play tight defense if they hope to win in front of their supporters on Thursday.
Jordan's quest for Asian Cup title came up short after they lost the final 3-1 to Qatar, the host country, on February 10. Hussein Ammouta's team conceded a goal in the 22nd minute to Akram Afif's team, but Yazan Al-Naimat's goal midway through the half tied the score before Afif's two second-half penalties.
With just one point from two games, the Chivalrous Ones' three-game winning streak came to an end. Despite this, they had a lackluster World Cup qualification campaign. During the last international break of the season, Thursday's visitors will be eager to start the last of two crucial six-pointers against their hosts five days apart.
