Joao Palhinha has joined Tottenham Hotspur on a loan deal from Bayern Munich for the season. The midfielder, who previously played for Fulham, returns to the Premier League after a year in Germany. Spurs have an option to purchase him permanently for £27 million (€30.9 million) at the end of the season.
Palhinha's time at Bayern Munich was marked by limited playing opportunities, despite winning the Bundesliga in his first season. He started only nine out of 24 matches across all competitions. This move to Tottenham offers him a fresh chance to showcase his skills in England once more.

During his last stint with Fulham, Palhinha was a standout performer in the Premier League. He led the league with 152 tackles, winning 75 of them. Additionally, he topped his team with 425 duels, securing victory in 259 instances. His defensive prowess made him a key player during that period.
The Portuguese international has also been capped 34 times for Portugal and was part of their Nations League-winning squad in June. His experience and skill set are expected to bolster Tottenham's midfield options significantly this season.
Palhinha is Tottenham's sixth signing this transfer window. He joins other new arrivals such as Mohammed Kudus, Luka Vuskovic, Kota Takai, Mathys Tel, and Kevin Danso. These additions reflect Spurs' ambition to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The midfielder might make his first appearance for Spurs in the Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain on August 13. Following this match, Tottenham will kick off their Premier League campaign against Burnley on August 16.
This strategic acquisition aims to enhance Tottenham's competitiveness both domestically and in European competitions. With Palhinha's proven track record in England and international experience, he is expected to be a valuable asset for Spurs this season.
