Paraguay striker Salvador shot in the head

Mexico, Jan 26: Top Paraguay footballer Salvador Cabanas is in critical condition after he was shot in the head at a bar on Monday, Jan 25.

According to surgeons in a Mexico City hospital, where Cabanas is admitted, the condition of the 29-year-old striker is critical but stable.

"We have not removed the bullet, we'd do more damage if we tried to take it out, but where it's lodged it's no longer causing any damage," Dr Ernesto Martinez said.

Martinez added that his condition although critical is stable.

"We can't be sure he is out of danger ... but his condition is very stable," he said.

Meanwhile, Mexico City's top prosecutor Miguel Angel Mancera has ruled out robbery as possible cause of attack citing that the belongings of the Cabanas, who was accompanied with his wife, were not stolen.

"He has his belongings, we are ruling out ... that it was an attack to rob him," Mancera said in city radio station.

According to a statement in the local radio station, Cabanas's agent Jose Maria Gonzalez informed that the striker was still conscious when he was brought to the hospital.
