Paris Saint-Germain showcased their prowess with a 3-1 comeback victory against Aston Villa in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. Despite Morgan Rogers giving Villa an unexpected lead, PSG quickly responded. Desire Doue equalised with a curling shot, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia put PSG ahead shortly after halftime. Nuno Mendes sealed the win with a late goal, leaving Villa struggling to contain PSG's relentless attack.
From the outset, PSG controlled the game, forcing Emiliano Martinez to make crucial saves. Ousmane Dembele's powerful strike was tipped over by Martinez, while Vitinha narrowly missed the target with a curling effort. Villa's goal came against the run of play when Marcus Rashford set up Youri Tielemans, whose cross was converted by Rogers at the far post.

Despite falling behind, PSG remained composed. Doue's initial attempt hit the post but he scored moments later with a stunning shot off the crossbar. Before halftime, Doue nearly added another goal, testing Martinez again and having a shot blocked after a skilful run.
Kvaratskhelia extended PSG's lead early in the second half by outsmarting Axel Disasi and scoring from a tight angle. Villa struggled to contain PSG as they sought a third goal. Achraf Hakimi was denied by Martinez after Fabian Ruiz's clever dummy. However, Mendes secured the decisive goal in stoppage time, capitalising on Dembele's pass and finishing into an open net.
Villa spent much of the second half defending deep, aiming to limit PSG to a 2-1 lead before next week's second leg. Yet, they couldn't contest PSG's dominance. Rogers' goal marked Villa's first touches inside PSG's area in the 35th minute. By halftime, PSG had unleashed 15 shots—their highest first-half tally since December 2016 against Ludogorets.
By full-time, PSG had attempted 29 shots compared to Villa’s seven, with 19 coming from inside the box. All of PSG’s forwards made significant contributions. Kvaratskhelia became the first Georgian player to achieve double figures for Champions League goal involvements this season with four goals and six assists.
Doue has now scored in four consecutive matches across all competitions. Although Dembele didn't score, he was instrumental in creating opportunities for his teammates, providing nine key passes during the match.
Dembele assisted Mendes' late third goal, bringing his total to 27 goal involvements in all competitions for 2025—more than any other player from Europe's top five leagues this year.
Villa will need a remarkable performance in next week's return leg if they hope to overturn this deficit against such formidable opponents as PSG.
