Paris Saint-Germain Triumphs Over Arsenal To Secure Champions League Final Spot

Paris Saint-Germain secured a spot in the Champions League final by defeating Arsenal 2-1, achieving a 3-1 aggregate win. Fabian Ruiz opened the scoring in the first half, and Achraf Hakimi's goal with less than 20 minutes remaining sealed the victory. Despite Bukayo Saka's late goal for Arsenal, PSG held on to celebrate their progression to face Inter on May 31.

Arsenal's early efforts were thwarted by Gianluigi Donnarumma's impressive saves. Declan Rice missed an early header, while Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard were denied by Donnarumma. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia nearly scored with a curling shot that hit the post, showcasing PSG's attacking threat even without Ousmane Dembele starting.

Fabian Ruiz capitalised on a poor clearance from Thomas Partey to score with a deflected shot off William Saliba. Donnarumma continued his heroics by tipping over Saka's corner and saving another attempt from him as Arsenal sought an equaliser. PSG had a chance to double their lead when Myles Lewis-Skelly was penalised for handball, but Vitinha's penalty was saved by Raya.

Hakimi extended PSG's lead with a well-placed shot into the bottom-right corner after Arsenal failed to clear their lines. Saka managed to score from Leandro Trossard's pass but later missed a crucial chance from close range, leaving Arsenal unable to complete their comeback.

This match marked Fabian Ruiz’s first Champions League goal in his 46th appearance, making him the first Spanish player to score his debut goal at this stage of the competition. He became PSG’s 12th different scorer in this season’s tournament. Kvaratskhelia’s earlier attempt hitting the post was PSG’s tenth woodwork strike in this campaign.

Saka’s goal was his sixth in this season’s Champions League, surpassing Olivier Giroud’s record for Arsenal. He has now scored ten goals in just eighteen appearances in this competition. Despite creating chances worth 3.14 expected goals compared to PSG’s 1.74, Arsenal could not find the net enough times to advance.

The match also marked Arsenal's milestone of playing their 100th away game in the Champions League. However, they joined six other teams who have reached this milestone without progressing further this time around.
