Paris Saint-Germain Reclaim Ligue 1 Summit With 3-0 Metz Win

Paris Saint-Germain returned to the Ligue 1 summit with a 3-0 home victory over Metz. Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola and Goncalo Ramos scored as PSG dominated from the start, boosting their title bid and extending home form under Luis Enrique. Zaire-Emery starred with key contributions and assists, while Metz saw a red card overturned on review.

Paris Saint-Germain moved back to the Ligue 1 summit with a controlled 3-0 win over Metz. Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola and Goncalo Ramos scored at the Parc des Princes. The result restores a two-point gap over Lens, who lost against Monaco earlier on 21 February, and highlights PSG’s strong response after defeat at Rennes.

PSG’s display under Luis Enrique was dominant from the opening minutes until the final whistle. Metz created very little and struggled to cope with PSG’s tempo. The hosts limited Metz to three off-target shots while producing sustained pressure, constant movement in attack and secure passing across all areas of the pitch.

Paris Saint-Germain beat Metz to top Ligue 1

Statistical measures underline PSG’s superiority against Metz in this Ligue 1 meeting. PSG attempted 17 shots and produced 2.13 expected goals, reflecting frequent chances. Metz finished with only three attempts, worth 0.08 expected goals. The visitors rarely threatened PSG’s goal and spent long spells pinned deep near their own penalty area.

Team Goals Shots Expected Goals (xG)
PSG 3 17 2.13
Metz 0 3 0.08

The match also extends PSG’s strong home sequence in Ligue 1 under Luis Enrique. After losing 3-1 away to Rennes in the previous round, PSG needed a reaction. This victory means PSG have now won seven straight league games at the Parc des Princes, their longest such home run since Luis Enrique took charge.

Warren Zaire-Emery again played a central part in PSG’s control against Metz. Zaire-Emery delivered two key passes and finished with three Ligue 1 assists in 2026 so far. That is already Zaire-Emery’s best calendar-year tally in the competition. Zaire-Emery also led the game for touches, passes and accurate passes, while winning eight duels.

PSG Ligue 1 breakthrough and Metz early collapse

The scoring began very early, setting the tone for Metz’s difficult evening. After only three minutes, Zaire-Emery sent a long ball over the top of the Metz defence. Desire Doue timed the run, moved clear through the middle and finished calmly past Jonathan Fischer in a one-on-one situation to give PSG an ideal start.

Metz’s back line struggled to read Zaire-Emery’s distribution and left large spaces behind. The early goal forced Metz deeper and made counter-attacks rare. PSG used this advantage to recycle possession and commit full-backs high. The away side’s attempts to step out were usually broken up by quick pressure around the halfway line.

PSG Ligue 1 goals from Barcola and Ramos vs Metz

PSG doubled the advantage deep into first-half stoppage time after sustained pressure. From a corner, Lucas Hernandez flicked on at the near post and Fischer pushed the ball away. Goncalo Ramos reacted first, keeping his composure to set up Bradley Barcola, who had time to direct a close-range header into an unguarded net.

The third PSG goal, which finally ended Metz’s faint hopes, arrived on 77 minutes. Hernandez picked out Ramos with a pass towards the left side of the penalty area. Ramos controlled cleanly and drove a rising shot into the roof of Fischer’s net. The strike rewarded Ramos for constant movement across the frontline.

Zaire-Emery nearly added a fourth goal late in normal time as Metz tired. After drifting into space, Zaire-Emery collected possession and aimed a low shot towards the near post. Fischer stayed alert and got down quickly, making a smothering save that prevented further damage to Metz’s goal difference.

PSG Ligue 1 discipline and Metz VAR decision

There was a key disciplinary incident in the first half that could have further harmed Metz. Jean-Philippe Gbamin was initially shown a straight red card for a late challenge on Ramos. However, following a VAR review, the referee changed the decision to a yellow card, allowing Metz to continue with eleven players.

PSG’s comfortable 3-0 victory over Metz restores control of the Ligue 1 title race. The performance combined early attacking impact, defensive security and detailed passing patterns. Zaire-Emery’s influence, Ramos’ clinical finish and continued strength at the Parc des Princes give PSG a two-point advantage over Lens after this round of fixtures.
