Paris Saint-Germain Secure Fifth Ligue 1 Title As Kvaratskhelia And Mbaye Seal Win Over Lens
Paris Saint-Germain secured a fifth straight Ligue 1 crown with a 2-0 victory over Lens, sealing the championship with one match remaining. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ibrahim Mbaye scored the crucial goals, as Luis Enrique’s team earned more than the single point required against the second-placed side.
Lens actually created the greater threat overall and ended with an expected goals figure of 2.57 from 25 attempts. PSG produced only 10 shots and an xG of 1.09, yet showed greater efficiency in both penalty areas during a tense contest between the league’s leading teams.

PSG became the third club to clinch a Ligue 1 title against the side that ultimately finished runners-up. Lyon did so against Lens in 2001-02, while PSG themselves repeated the feat versus Monaco in 2017-18, underlining how direct battles have often settled the championship.
Lens’ display under Pierre Sage suggested the hosts might delay the celebrations. The team pressed aggressively from the start and troubled PSG throughout. Despite missing out on a first league title since the 1997-98 season, Lens showed why the club mounted such an unlikely challenge to PSG’s dominance.
The match’s first clear openings fell to Lens around the 20th minute. Wesley Said forced a sharp stop from Matvey Safonov, and the rebound dropped kindly for Adrien Thomasson. Illia Zabarnyi read the danger and headed Thomasson’s effort off the line, preserving parity during a spell of heavy pressure.
PSG struck first after 29 minutes, punishing a defensive mistake. Ousmane Dembele dispossessed Malang Sarr and quickly sent Kvaratskhelia through on goal. The forward steadied with one touch and guided a low shot into the bottom-left corner, turning the match despite Lens controlling much of the early play.
Dembele, named Ligue 1 Player of the Year before kick-off, almost extended the lead before half-time. A curling shot drifted just wide, moments after Safonov had tipped a close-range effort from Said over the crossbar. The pattern continued after the break, with Lens pushing and PSG relying on defensive resilience.
Safonov produced eight saves in total, earning an eighth Ligue 1 clean sheet this season. The goalkeeper denied Abdallah Sima and watched an Allan Saint-Maximin strike glance off the roof of the net. Sima then hit the right post, while Mamadou Sangare’s low drive was blocked by Safonov’s outstretched feet.
Lens’ late dominance left space for a decisive counter in stoppage time. With the hosts committing bodies forward searching for an equaliser, PSG broke clear. Mbaye met the chance with a fierce strike that crashed in off the crossbar in the third added minute, confirming the title in emphatic fashion.
{TABLE_1}The numbers highlighted how narrowly PSG escaped. Lens’ 25 shots contrasted with PSG’s 10, yet the champions scored twice without reply. Clinical finishing, combined with Safonov’s interventions and key defensive blocks, meant Lens’ efforts did not translate into goals in a match that could have swung either way.
PSG left the pitch knowing the job in Ligue 1 is complete with a game left to play. Lens departed frustrated after outshooting the champions and creating higher-quality chances, yet the match underlined why PSG again finish top, combining decisive attacking moments with crucial defensive contributions.
