Parma Defeats Juventus 1-0: Pellegrino's Goal Affects Visitors' Top-Four Hopes

In a crucial Serie A clash, Parma secured a 1-0 victory over Juventus thanks to Mateo Pellegrino's header. This result hampers Juventus' hopes of finishing in the top four.

Juventus missed a crucial opportunity to climb back to fourth in Serie A after a narrow 1-0 loss to Parma. Mateo Pellegrino's decisive goal at Stadio Ennio Tardini helped the hosts move six points clear of relegation. The first half was uneventful until stoppage time when Pellegrino headed Emanuele Valeri's cross past Michele Di Gregorio. Juventus struggled to create chances and suffered their first defeat under Igor Tudor.

Parma's recent form has been impressive since Cristian Chivu took over as manager in February. In eight Serie A matches, they have accumulated 11 points, second only to Como among teams in the lower half of the table. This victory marked their first win against Juventus in Serie A in a decade and extended their unbeaten streak to six games, a feat last achieved in 2014.

Parma Beats Juventus 1-0 in Serie A Match

Pellegrino emerged as the standout performer for Parma. At 23 years and 183 days old, he became the youngest player since Jonathan Biabiany in 2011 to contribute to goals in three consecutive home games for Parma. His goal came from a cross by Valeri, who is one of four Italian defenders with at least five assists this season, alongside Raoul Bellanova, Federico Dimarco, and Tommaso Augello.

After the break, both teams found it difficult to create genuine scoring opportunities. Juventus pushed hard for an equaliser towards the end but failed to find the net. Francisco Conceicao came close with a shot that narrowly missed during stoppage time. This defeat marked Juventus' first under new manager Igor Tudor.

Emanuele Valeri's contribution was significant as well. He provided his fifth assist of the season with his cross for Pellegrino's goal. Among Italian defenders, only three others have more assists than Valeri this season: Raoul Bellanova with eight, Federico Dimarco with seven, and Tommaso Augello with six.

This result highlights Parma's improvement under Chivu and their determination to avoid relegation. Meanwhile, Juventus will need to regroup quickly if they hope to secure a top-four finish this season.
