French newspaper L’Equipe claims that Pogba "regrets returning to Manchester United" over his positional problems under Jose Mourinho
The £89million man has been subbed off by the Special One twice in recent weeks, in damaging Premier League defeats to Spurs and Newcastle.
And Mourinho, according to an article for the Daily Record, has been unimpressed with Pogba's contribution to the team since Alexis Sanchez's signing from Arsenal.
The former Chelsea boss feels Pogba should be able to dominate matches in a box-to-box midfield role like Steven Gerrard did at Liverpool and not just enjoy the freedom to attack.
Mourinho is known to be a huge admirer of Steven Gerrard whom he could never manage despite trying to sign him on three occasions with Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
The Portuguese believes Pogba should be able to flourish in a role similar to Gerrard and must contribute to the whole team not just attacking-wise.
Pogba's lethargic attitude is understood to have annoyed the Portuguese coach whose preferred method is having experienced campaigners carrying out specific tasks around the pitch.
Mourinho hauled off Pogba immediately after the midfielder failed to challenge for the free-kick Newcastle scored from on Sunday. And he made it clear he was unhappy with what he saw as players ducking out of the challenge.
