Manchester, December 13: Paul Pogba has revealed that he rejected a chance to join Real Madrid to secure a £89million move to Manchester United in the summer of 2016 as his heart suggested him to do so.

The 24-year-old midfielder was subject to a transfer battle between the top two heavyweights, United and Madrid after the player desired to move from Turin. And it was United who won the race and got hold of their most prized asset with a world record fee.

And now in a recent interview, Pogba has reiterated the fact that he was also very close to joining the defending UCL champions however his love for United and his urge to return to his boyhood club gave him the right preference.

Speaking on the Beyond the Pitch podcast, Pogba explained: "To be honest, Real Madrid came to me and I was thinking to go there, and I was thinking to go to Manchester United too.

"But I always felt it in my heart. My heart told me to come back here, I don't know why, I didn't know what was going to happen.

"But I did it, and I don't regret. I never regret my choice."

Pogba helped United in winning silverware last season, the carabao cup and the UEFA Europa League and the midfielder was also adjudged the best player of the latter tournament, but only helped United to finish fifth in the league.

But the midfielder suggested that he believes his team is on the right track and will soon achieve the much desired Premier League title.

Pogba said: "That's what we were expecting, to go back in the Champions League and to win some trophies.

"Obviously, the main objective was to win the Premier League. It didn't happen but we won other trophies, so I'm glad.

"I came back for a reason, just to put Manchester United where they belong. I'm sure we can do that so I'm going to give my best until we arrive there."

Pogba is currently suspended after he received a red card in United's 3-1 victory over Arsenal and will have to sit out in United's next two fixtures, Bournemouth and West Brom.
