Pep Guardiola Brushes Off Man City Exit Rumours After Arsenal Title Win
Pep Guardiola insisted Manchester City remain the ideal club for Guardiola, despite reports of an exit. The 55-year-old dismissed suggestions that a decision has already been taken on leaving at season’s end. Speculation intensified after Manchester City surrendered the Premier League title to Arsenal, yet Guardiola stressed discussions about the future still need to happen internally.
Guardiola is approaching what could be a decisive moment, with one year left on the current contract. Reports on Monday claimed Guardiola has chosen to depart after this campaign. If that happens, the farewell would come without another league crown, following a period that has delivered 20 trophies across a decade in charge.

Guardiola made clear that any final call will first involve the Manchester City hierarchy and dressing room. "I could say I have one year of a contractthe conversation we have had for many years, always from my experience, when you [media] announce whatever you announce during a competition, it is a bad, bad result," he told Sky Sports. "The first person I have to talk to is my chairman because we both decidewe will talk, it is simple as that and after that, we will take the decision."
The draw against Bournemouth on Tuesday confirmed Arsenal as champions for the first time since 2004. A late Erling Haaland goal rescued a point at the Vitality Stadium but did not affect the title race. Manchester City produced a subdued display days after an FA Cup triumph on Saturday, and Bournemouth created better chances for much of the contest.
Bournemouth had looked close to a bigger lead before Haaland’s stoppage-time finish. That strike was not enough to extend Manchester City’s domestic dominance, with Arsenal’s points total now out of reach. For Guardiola, it is the first time as a manager that successive league titles have not followed in seasons under continuous charge.
Guardiola underlined that no announcement about Manchester City will be made before talks with those inside the club. "Listen, I have one more year. I will not tell you here as I have to talk to my chairman, with my players and with my staff. I am the happiest man on the planet to be in this club. This club is extraordinary." The focus, Guardiola stressed, remains on the next fixture.
Manchester City now prepare for Aston Villa at home on Sunday, which could yet be Guardiola’s last match in the dugout. Guardiola has spent ten years building Manchester City into a consistent contender across domestic and European competitions. The club’s schedule leaves little room for distraction as players reset after missing out on another league crown.
Guardiola also spoke about the backing received from Manchester City supporters throughout this campaign. "I know they love me so much, I love you more! I know that! It's the best place to be, I love this place. I adore it," Guardiola added of the City fans' support. That relationship, Guardiola suggested, remains central during any discussions over the road ahead.
Attention for Guardiola and Manchester City also stayed on handling the ongoing speculation around private conversations. "So let me talk about my club, right? Even ifpeople say I've talked with a thousand million people. I was just incredibly, incredibly focused on my job, and when we are in competitions, this is what I have to do." Guardiola emphasised that outside noise does not shape daily work or preparation.
Assessing the season with Manchester City, Guardiola praised the effort during the title chase behind Arsenal. "The players gave everything all season, fighting for difficult circumstances until the end. We were close. On behalf of Man City, congratulations to Arsenal, Mikel [Arteta] and all the backroom staff on the Premier League, which they deserve. He put in a lot of effort and work. Congratulations to him." The campaign now closes with Guardiola’s future still formally unresolved.
