Pep Guardiola Affirms Commitment To Manchester City Even If Relegated Due To Financial Charges

Pep Guardiola has pledged to stay with Manchester City regardless of potential relegation due to alleged financial rule breaches. He signed a new contract, extending his tenure at the club, where he has achieved significant success.

Pep Guardiola has committed to staying with Manchester City even if the club faces relegation due to alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules. Guardiola, who joined City in 2016, recently extended his contract for two more years, dispelling rumours about his future. This extension will make him the longest-serving manager at the club since Les McDowall in 1963.

Guardiola's tenure has been marked by significant success, including 18 trophies such as six Premier League titles and a Champions League victory last year. His win rate stands at an impressive 72.04%, the highest for any full-time City manager. Despite ongoing hearings into City's alleged rule violations, Guardiola remains steadfast in his commitment to the club.

Guardiola Stays with Manchester City Amid Relegation Threat

The manager expressed his loyalty by stating, "I said that six months ago. If we get relegated, I will be here and next year we're going to come up to the Premier League. I knew it then, I feel it now." He also mentioned that agreeing to the new contract took less than two hours because he felt it was right and because of mutual trust with the club.

City is currently preparing to face Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium after enduring four consecutive defeats, marking Guardiola's longest losing streak as a manager. The last time City lost more games consecutively was under Stuart Pearce in 2006. They have struggled against Tottenham recently, winning only three of their last ten league encounters.

Despite recent setbacks, Guardiola highlighted City's achievements, notably becoming the first team to win four consecutive Premier League titles. "When you are here for nine years, with a long time at one club, you live all the scenarios," he said. He acknowledged that while losing streaks can happen, so can remarkable successes like their title wins.

Guardiola emphasised that spending a long time at one club means experiencing both highs and lows. He noted that while many teams can lose several games in different competitions, only one team has managed to secure four consecutive league titles. This achievement underscores City's resilience and capability under his leadership.

The upcoming match against Tottenham presents an opportunity for City to regain momentum and possibly secure back-to-back victories over them for the first time since April 2019. As Guardiola continues his journey with City, he remains focused on overcoming challenges and building on past successes.
