Pep Guardiola wants to extend his stay at Manchester City

Guardiola admitted that he wishes to take his side forward in the coming years but also insisted his wish will only be approved if he succeeds at the Etihad.

Manchester, July 29: Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hinted that he may be prepared to extend his stay at the club but only if he brings success.

He said, as quoted by Sky Sports: "I will try to remain as long as possible to help, to help City keep moving forward and stay high.

"I think the club has to work and listen to the manager in the right moment, but also take their own decisions in the future. Nobody knows what will happen. For all the managers in the world it depends on the results."

The Spanish manager came to the Manchester side with a reputation for winning trophies at every club in his first season, however, his records dropped after he struggled in the league as well as in the other competitions in the Manchester club last season.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager finished the season with a frustrating third place finish in the Premier league and ended the campaign without trophies.

To strengthen the squad, the 46-year-old demanded a squad overhaul from the board and the cash rich Premier league side duly gave him the opportunity to open the cheque book.

Guardiola has spent over £200 million to bring in heavyweights like Bernardo Silva, Ederson Moraes, Kyle Walker and Danilo already, however, regarding such lump sum transfers, he was happy with the businesses done.

The Catalan suggested all these young signings will be effective for City's title challenge for years to come and whether he remains the manager or not the squad improvement will show its value later.

Guardiola added: "They are really good players. Good enough that it doesn't matter who the manager will be. For Manchester City that is the most important thing."

"The new players have come in and we know the kind of energy they have to give us a really good chance to fight for the titles. We were not good enough and we haven't changed for the short period."

"All the players' averages are so, so young, so for the next five, six or seven years they will be here. And as soon as possible we want to be involved in the title."
