Former Liverpool player Philippe Coutinho's interview took a startling turn when a live television interview was interrupted by the sound of gunfire near Vasco da Gama's training ground in Rio de Janeiro.
The 32-year-old midfielder, currently on loan from Aston Villa, was speaking to TV channel Globo when loud shots rang out from the surrounding area.

Coutinho briefly paused, turned with a smile, and made a light-hearted comment - an attempt at humour that was echoed by his team-mates Leo Jardim and Nuno Moreira, who were also present for interviews. But soon after, there were several more gunshots which could be heard, leading to an end to the interview midway.
The incident occurred at Vasco's Moacyr Barbosa Training Centre, which was inaugurated in 2020 and is located near Cidade de Deus - a neighbourhood long associated with frequent outbreaks of violence. According to reports, the sound of gunfire and the buzz of helicopters have become an unfortunate norm around the facility, often linked to ongoing police operations in the vicinity.
Coutinho, who began his professional journey at Vasco and rejoined the club on loan last summer, has made 23 appearances this season, contributing five goals and two assists. Despite his individual efforts, Vasco have endured a difficult campaign and currently sit 13th in the Brazilian Serie A. The club last lifted major silverware in 2011, winning the Copa do Brasil, and are far from replicating the glory of their 1998 Copa Libertadores triumph.
In the face of these off-field challenges, the club has continued investing in infrastructure at their training complex. Enhancements include new recovery facilities such as a swimming pool and hot tub, while further developments are planned, including a presidential office, a dedicated space for coaching staff, and a large meeting room.
For now, Coutinho and his teammates are left to contend not just with the pressures of football, but with the stark reality of life in a region where the sounds of gunfire form part of their training routines.
