Munich disaster (1958)
An Aeroplane carrying a visiting Manchester United side crashed at the Munich airport. 23 people died then and there which included 8 talented United players, few journalists and supporters. 21 people were severely injured which included club manager Sir Matt Busby and legendary footballer Sir Bobby Charlton.
The Hillsborough Tragedy (1996)
The Hillsborough tragedy is one of the biggest disasters in English football and black mark in their legacy in world football. It was an FA Cup match between Nottingham Forest and Liverpool. As the match kicked-off, the security personnel in the stadium opened two gates which allowed a huge number of fans to enter the stadium. The influx of so many fans created a chaos and eventually 776 fans were injured and 96 were killed.
The Bradford City stadium disaster (1985)
The Bradford City stadium disaster is also one of the most dreadful chapters in English football. The tragedy occurred after a fan threw a cigarette down the gap of a terrace seat which ignited a pile of garbage. Slowly the fire spread and soon the wooden planks of the galleries caught fire. 56 people died and more than 450 people were injured.
Porto Said stadium disaster (2012)
The Porto Said stadium located in Egypt witnessed the biggest tragedy in the country's football history in 2012. It was a match between arch rivals Al-Masry and Al-Ahly which Al-Masry won 3-1. Not able to digest the humiliating defeat, Al-Ahly fans, after the match attacked the opposition in numbers and assaulted with knives, bottles, woods, etc. It killed 79 people and left more than 1000 injured.
The Chapecoense plane crash (2016)
Finally we throw light at the newest tragedy in football world whose news broke today morning, November 29. Brazil's Chapecoense Football club were traveling to Colombia to face local side Atletico Nacional in the final of Copa Sudamerica. At Medellin, Colombia the plane crashed which killed almost the entire passenger bunch of 72. Only 4 footballers and 1 crew member survived.
