London, March 6: Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur had a 2-2 result against the Serie A club Juventus in the first leg of the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League round-of-16, which was their away encounter.
This Wednesday (March 7) they will meet once again at Wembley Stadium (London) to decide who will advance to the next stage.
Juventus is one of the top-performing teams in the recent UCL, who have played two finals in the previous three UCL seasons. On the other hand, Spurs had played in the UCL quarter-finals last time in 2010/11.
However, that records are not making any panic in the Spurs dressing room as their manager Mauricio Pochettino is not taking any stress for this encounter.
Talking about the upcoming important match, Pochettino was quoted by a report published in Independent as saying, “I think we need to be relaxed now and try to prepare the best game in the best way. Like all the games. It doesn’t change because it’s Champions League or an important game. For me, all the games are important. The approach must be the same.”
A low-scoring draw is enough for Spurs to qualify for the next round in the 2017/18 UCL. Currently standing at the fourth position in the Premier League’s points table, Spurs have lost only twice at Wembley in this season (one in Premier League and one in EFL Cup).
In this Champions League season, Spurs are unbeaten in overall while they have won all their home matches during the Group Stage. They beat Borussia Dortmund, APOEL and the last two-time UCL champion Real Madrid at Wembley in this UCL season and scored three goals in each game.
Pochettino has a confident voice before the beginning of the clash against the last year runners-up as he said, “I think for me we are going to enjoy the game. We deserve to be there. Enjoy, and not put drama in this game. It’s only to try to enjoy and be free and try to perform in the best way.”
When the former Argentine centre-back was asked that if it is his career’s biggest match or not, he replied, “Maybe yes, maybe no, I don’t know. I think it’s important, yes, like when we play the [2015 League Cup] final against Chelsea. Or when you play a semi-final of the FA Cup. Or when you win a big game in the Premier League.”
Talking about his team’s present condition, Pochettino said that his team is not going to panic. He said, “It’s a game that we are going to play and we are going to try to perform in the best way, to try to be close to winning. Of course, we are going to play one of the best teams, or clubs, in Europe. Of course, it will be very tough. But I think we are going to arrive in a perfect condition to challenge them.”
