Paul Pogba is poised to return to competitive football as Monaco faces Rennes in Ligue 1 this weekend. The French midfielder, who last played for Juventus against Empoli in September 2023, has been sidelined due to a doping ban. His suspension was initially set for four years after testing positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in August 2023 but was later reduced to 19 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Pogba's inclusion in Monaco's squad marks his first appearance since recovering from an ankle injury. The 32-year-old midfielder is expected to significantly impact both on and off the field. Monaco manager Sebastien Pocognoli expressed confidence in Pogba's ability to enhance the team's performance, stating, "We try to help him reach his full potential so that the team comes out on top."

Pocognoli highlighted Pogba's adaptability and leadership qualities, noting that he retains his vision and technique despite the long absence. "He has the qualities to adapt to what we want to implement in midfield," Pocognoli remarked. Pogba's experience is expected to be invaluable as he adjusts back into competitive play.
Before his ban, Pogba had a successful stint with Manchester United during the 2021-22 season, where he provided nine assists from 24 chances created and scored once. This upcoming match will be Pogba's debut in France's top league, having previously played only for Juventus and Manchester United at the professional level.
Monaco currently sits sixth in Ligue 1, and Pogba's return could provide the boost they need as they aim for higher standings. His presence is anticipated to bring not just skill but also morale enhancement within the team dynamics.
