Quaresma's goal in 117th minute helps Portugal advance to Euro 2016 quarters

By IANS English

Lens, (France), June 26: Ricardo Quaresma, who was sent in quite late to replace Joao Mario, managed to break a scoreless Euro 2016 pre-quarterfinal match in the 117th minute, enabling Portugal to defeat Croatia 1-0 and advance to the quarter-finals.

Croatia's Domagoj Vida, center right, fights for the ball with Portugal's Pepe during the Euro 2016 round of 16 soccer match between Croatia and Portugal at the Bollaert stadium in Lens, France, on June 25, 2016.

Portugal will next face off against Poland - who defeated Switzerland 5-4 in a penalty kick shootout earlier on Saturday - on Thursday in Marseille.
