Portuguese Football Federation Mourns Diogo Jota and Andre Silva, Plans Tribute at Women’s Euro Match
The Portuguese footballing community is in mourning following the tragic deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva in a car accident in Spain early Thursday morning.
The devastating news has left the nation stunned, with the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) releasing an emotional statement expressing profound grief over the loss of two of its cherished figures.

"The Portuguese Football Federation and all of Portuguese football are completely devastated by the deaths of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, this morning, in Spain," the FPF said.
Diogo Jota, who had earned nearly 50 caps for Portugal's senior national team, was more than just a talented forward. The FPF described him as "an extraordinary person, respected by all colleagues and opponents, someone with a contagious joy and a reference in his own community."
The federation also extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of both Diogo and André Silva, as well as to Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel - the respective clubs the two brothers most recently represented.
In a moving tribute, the FPF announced a special gesture to honor their memory: a minute of silence will be observed before the Portuguese women's national team takes on Spain in the Women's European Championship this Thursday.
"The Portuguese Football Federation has already requested UEFA to hold a minute of silence, this Thursday, before our National Team's match against Spain in the Women's European Championship," the statement read.
Concluding their tribute, the FPF acknowledged the enormous void left by the passing of the two brothers. "We have lost two champions. The passing of Diogo and André Silva represents irreparable losses for Portuguese Football, and we will do everything to honor their legacy daily."
The football world joins Portugal in mourning the untimely deaths of two young men whose impact reached far beyond the pitch and had a bright future ahead.
