A defiant Ange Postecoglou believes Tottenham have the potential to secure trophies this season, asserting his track record of success in his second year. Gabriel Magalhaes netted the decisive goal for Arsenal in the 64th minute, capitalising on poor defending during a corner to score the winner.
Despite Tottenham's dominance in possession with 63.7% and entering the final third 62 times, they struggled to convert their chances. They had 15 shots compared to Arsenal's seven but failed to find the back of the net. Postecoglou expressed his frustration after the match, stating, "It's very disappointing in a big game for us and our supporters. We didn't deliver so you have to take the pain from that."

When asked about Tottenham's prospects for silverware this season, Postecoglou told Sky Sports: "I don't usually win things; I always win things in my second year. Nothing's changed. I don't say things unless I believe it." He has yet to defeat Arsenal in three Premier League attempts and lamented their lack of clinical finishing.
Son Heung-min made his 19th Premier League appearance in the North London derby, with only Sol Campbell (22) having more among outfield players. However, Son struggled to make an impact, registering just 0.04 expected goals (xG). He echoed Postecoglou's frustrations, saying, "We dominated the game; the football was there, we just conceded from a set-piece again."
The Spurs captain acknowledged the team's need for improvement: "We did it last season, and it is really frustrating," Son said. "I am sure the fans are also very disappointed. We have to improve, 100%. It's a tough moment and we have to stick together."
Postecoglou highlighted their early-season struggles despite playing well: "It has been the story of our season so far; we played in their half and created chances but lacked belief in the final third. That's what we need to fix." He emphasised that it's his responsibility to guide the team forward.
Tottenham's issues with set-pieces were evident as they switched off during one crucial moment and paid the price. Postecoglou noted that while they handled set-pieces well overall, lapses like these cost them dearly.
Son emphasised that players must take responsibility for scoring: "We are getting into the final third, but players have to take responsibility to score. It is the hardest part of football, making the right decision and being clinical."
Despite these challenges, Son remains optimistic about bouncing back: "We will bounce back strong; there is a long way to go." The team is determined to overcome their current difficulties and improve their performance as the season progresses.
