Ange Postecoglou is open to criticism directed at him but firmly defends his Tottenham squad, urging that they not be blamed. Spurs faced a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in the FA Cup's fourth round on Sunday, shortly after being ousted by Liverpool in the EFL Cup semi-final. This marks their second consecutive early exit from the FA Cup, a situation not seen since the 2014-15 season.
Tottenham was competing on four fronts until recently, having reached the Europa League last 16. However, an injury crisis since mid-November has left them struggling, with key players absent. For their match at Villa Park, Spurs were without 11 senior players. Postecoglou had to start four teenagers and 21-year-old goalkeeper Antonio Kinsky, who was responsible for Jacob Ramsey's early goal.

Despite the pressure, Postecoglou was displeased with criticism aimed at Spurs after their defeat to Villa. He insisted that any blame should be directed at him rather than his players. "People can judge me," he stated. "They can say I have done a bad job; I'm not up to it or whatever." He emphasized that criticizing players under current circumstances is unfair.
Postecoglou argued that if people criticize Spurs' performance due to missing players, they should apply the same standard to other clubs facing similar challenges. "If it's to get rid of me, that's fine," he added defiantly. "Good on you. Go for it a million times."
Postecoglou highlighted Liverpool's unexpected 1-0 loss to Plymouth Argyle earlier on Sunday as Arne Slot rotated his squad significantly. "[Liverpool] did that for one game," he noted. "Do that for two-and-a-half months in multiple competitions." He expressed a desire to rotate players similarly but acknowledged current limitations.
The manager remains optimistic about Spurs' future once their full squad returns. "Once we get the rest of the group in, we will be an outstanding team," he asserted confidently.
Tottenham is set to resume Premier League action next Sunday against Manchester United. Both teams are struggling in the lower half of the table and will be eager for a positive result.
