Ange Postecoglou praised his team's resilience after Tottenham Hotspur triumphed 3-0 against Qarabag in their Europa League opener. Despite an early setback with Radu Dragusin's red card just seven minutes into the match, Spurs managed to secure victory through goals from Brennan Johnson, Pape Sarr, and Dominic Solanke. Qarabag missed a penalty and had a late goal disallowed, adding to their woes.
Postecoglou expressed dissatisfaction with the team's sluggish start but commended their performance after being reduced to ten players. "The red card was not ideal," he told TNT Sports. "I wasn't happy as I felt we started really sloppy. We talked about starting with a high tempo, and it was almost like the delay got to us." He noted that the team's reaction after the red card was commendable, though he remained critical of their initial approach.

Dominic Solanke played a crucial role in Spurs' victory, scoring for the second consecutive game. He had two shots on target, accumulated 0.99 expected goals, and made four touches in the opposition box—more than any other player on the team. Postecoglou highlighted Solanke's contributions beyond scoring, praising his link-up play and leadership on the field.
Solanke himself expressed satisfaction with the win and acknowledged the team's determination despite being down to ten men. "Very happy to get the win, the boys fought hard," he shared with TNT Sports. "Going down to 10 men it could have been a difficult game, but we all stuck to the game plan."
Brennan Johnson also made a significant impact by scoring one of Spurs' three goals. Postecoglou appreciated Johnson's confidence and pressing ability even when playing with ten men. "Brennan's [goal] was great," Postecoglou remarked. He emphasised that Johnson's confidence is vital for the team’s success.
The match began with an unexpected delay of 35 minutes due to travel disruptions in North London. This disruption seemed to affect Spurs' initial tempo, as noted by Postecoglou. However, once they settled into their rhythm, they managed to dominate despite being a player down.
The victory marked Tottenham's third consecutive win across all competitions, setting a positive tone for their European campaign. The team demonstrated strong spirit and adherence to their game plan despite facing challenges early in the match.
