Ange Postecoglou Commends Tottenham's Outstanding Performance In 3-0 Victory Against Manchester United

Ange Postecoglou praised his Tottenham team for their dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester United. The match showcased Spurs' tactical strength and ability to control the game effectively.

Ange Postecoglou praised Tottenham Hotspur after their commanding 3-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Spurs took an early lead with Brennan Johnson scoring in the third minute. The match turned further in their favour when Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a high tackle on James Maddison just before halftime. Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke added goals in the second half, sealing the victory.

Tottenham's performance was impressive, with 24 shots, 10 on target, and an expected goals (xG) tally of 4.67. They created nine big chances, equalling a Premier League record. This victory extended their unbeaten run against United to four matches. Postecoglou expressed satisfaction with his team's efforts, especially their quick start. "I thought it was an outstanding performance," he told BBC Match of the Day.

Postecoglou Praises Tottenham's Strong Win

Postecoglou highlighted the importance of starting strong, noting that they scored early and could have had more goals before Fernandes' red card shifted the game's dynamics. "The pressure then overwhelms them, and they get the red card," he said. "After that, I thought we controlled the game well." He commended his players for maintaining their principles throughout.

Brennan Johnson played a crucial role by hitting the post in the first half and assisting Kulusevski's goal shortly after halftime. Johnson has now scored in back-to-back Premier League games for the first time in his career, netting four times this season across all competitions. This is just one goal shy of his total from last season.

Johnson emphasised their strategy of starting games with intensity. "Yes, that [starting fast] is what we do," he stated. "We are not a team that takes 10-15 minutes to get into a game because that's not the way we play." He believes this approach brings out their best and forces opponents to open up if they score early.

Winning Streak Continues

The victory marked Tottenham's fourth consecutive win, achieved through different strategies but always adhering to their footballing principles. Postecoglou acknowledged that while they have won in various ways, staying true to their style has been key to their success.

Reflecting on recent matches, Postecoglou noted challenges like conceding early against Brentford and having a player sent off within eight minutes in another game. He stressed adapting to circumstances while maintaining focus on their playing style.

"I don't know about frustrated [about not getting more goals], but I am only human," Postecoglou remarked regarding missed opportunities. He expressed pride in his team's performance and desire for them to reap rewards from playing exceptional football.

Johnson echoed this sentiment by highlighting the importance of winning regardless of competition or game plan execution. "We can play as well as we can," he said, "but if we don't come away with the win, then it's all for nothing."

This victory showcased Tottenham's intent and ability to execute their game plan effectively while securing a clean sheet against formidable opposition like Manchester United.
